The
Eurasian Kestrel that came to perch by the College of
Science parking lot was a good start for the birding
day. Our first site was the marsh at the Pook Aguinaldo.
The waters have been drained though and waterbirds were
hiding in the remaining thickets.

Nevertheless we were able to spot White-breasted Waterhen,
Common Moorhen, White-browed Crake, Cinnamon and Yellow
Bitterns. A flock of Intermediate Egrets that flew northwards
was an unusual treat. Other grassland birds in the fields
include the Zitting Cisticiola, Chestnut and Scaly-breasted
Munias.
Back
at the National Institute of Geological Science (NIGS)
grasslands, among the birds were slow to come out were
Striated Grassbird, Long-tailed Shrike, Blue-rock Thrush
and Zebra Doves. Gerry called out to the Black-naped
Orioles while bee-eaters flew by. It seemed like a slow
day and I was surprised we ended with more than 20+
species ! |
