Summary:
The Ateneo
birdtrip had turned out with more birders than expected. There were
18 birders in all so we decided to split into 2 groups. Mike, Carl
and Nilo led the United Trekkers group while I joined the other
WBCP members and Haribon staffs. We had a slow start and I was beginning
to think the birds were not going to show up. It felt like 30 minutes
had passed and all that were showing up were sparrows and a collared-kingfisher.
I was relieved when after a while the birds started showing up.
We spotted Black-crowned Night-Herons, White-eared Brown-Doves and
then the Scaly Ground-Thrush. We also heard the Oriental Magpie-Robin
sing a most beautiful song. I've heard it before but that time was
the most beautiful that I've heard it, like it was singing an actual
song.
Mike and his group seemed like they were looking for nests. They
found a Long-tailed Shrike in a nest and a pair of Golden-bellied
Gerygones come in and out of a small nest. They were nice enough
to point it to us. At the Jesuit Residence, they saw Plain Bush-hen,
Barred Rail and White-breasted Water-hen together in one spot. They
also saw on what they decided was a Brown-headed Thrush. In the
end, it was a good birding day.
