Zamboanga City has been chosen as the site for the 9th Philippine Birds Festival to be held on February 28 to March 1 at Paseo del Mar.
The festival is expected to draw both international and local bird watchers to participate in the events lined up.
Ms. Gina Mapua, President of the Wild Birds Club of the Philippines said that the festival is being held to promote awareness on the preservation of birds in the community.
Zamboanga City has at least four birding sites, which are expected to be visited by the participants.
The event includes lectures and bird watching activities in the city's birding sites.
The main attraction, however, is the entry of thousands of barn swallows along Guardia Nacional right in the heart of the city.
The daily afternoon spectacle treats visitors to flocks of birds flying overhead and perched on rooftops and electric cables.
The 9th Philippine Bird Festival is organized by the Wild Bird Club of the Philippines and co-organized by the Department of Tourism Regional Office 9.
