DAVAO CITY, June 12 — Children of all
ages are invited to discover the beauty of birds and nature through
arts and crafts on Sunday, June 13, at the NCCC Mall of Davao
organized by the Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF) in this city.
Tatit Quiblat, communication officer of the Philippine
Eagle Center (PEC), said the art activities would be held at the
Asian Bird Fair Activity Area located in front of KFC on the ground
floor of the mall from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Quiblat said the arts workshop would serve as
a launch activity and preview to the First Asian Bird Fair and
6th Philippine Bird Festival scheduled in September in Davao City.
The Manila-based Wild Bird Club of the Philippines
(WBCP) is lead organizer of the Bird Fair, along with local hosts
PEF and the City government of Davao, she said.
The Asian Bird Fair, Quiblat said, would highlight
the respective bird festivals of the participating countries,
seek to enrich eco-tourism through bird watching and promote the
natural and cultural heritage of host cities.
Together with the 6th Philippine Bird Festival,
the Asian Bird Fair is expected to draw bird watchers, conservationists,
eco-tourism promoters, sustainable development providers, and
nature lovers from around the country, Asia and Europe.
Quiblat said besides gathering an international
following over the past five years, the Philippine Bird Festival,
together with the First Asian Bird Fair, were endorsed by the
Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Tourism.
Among the activities slated on Sunday afternoon
are coloring and origami-making. Participation in the workshop
would be free of charge, she said. (PNA) RMA/Jessie L. Casalda/lvp.
