1st Asian Bird Fair tarps at the Philippine Eagle Center
DAVAO CITY (PNA) – This city is slated
to be the site of the 1st Asian Bird Fair in tandem with the 6th
Philippine Bird Festival.
The Wild Bird Club of the Philippines (WBCP)
in partnership with the Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF) will
hold the twin event from September 24 to 26.
PEF communications officer Tatit Quiblat said
the First Asian Bird is a common initiative of the WBCP, the Bird
Conservation Society of Thailand, the Chinese Wild Bird Federation,
the Wild Bird Society of Taipei, the Malaysian Nature Society,
and the Nature Society of Singapore.
According to Quiblat, they are expecting over
200 international delegates to attend the twin event here.
The Asian Bird Fair, she said, which highlights the respective
bird festivals of the participating countries, seeks to enrich
eco-tourism through bird-watching and promote the natural and
cultural heritage of host cities.
Quiblat said part of the activities slated here
is bird-watching in sites of migratory birds in Ma-a, this city,
and in Carmen, Davao del Norte even as she said there are still
other sites worth the visit within the downtown area of the city
and also at the Malagos watershed which holds different kinds
of bird species.
Meanwhile, she said the 6th Philippine Bird
Festival is expected to draw bird watchers, conservationists,
eco-tourism promoters, sustainable development providers, and
nature lovers from around the country, Asia and Europe.
These international gatherings are also endorsed
by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR),
and the Department of Tourism (DoT), she said.
