MANILA, Philippines —
Hundreds of white migratory birds were sighted in a province
in northern Luzon on Monday, a television report said Tuesday.
A report aired over GMA News' primetime newscast
"24 Oras" said various kinds of egrets (tagak),
seagul, and sparrow (maya) were seen in Balanga, Bataan.
The report said the birds migrate this time
of the year due to extremely cold weather in their original
These birds get their food from various fisheries
in the said province, the report said. Fishermen said most
of these birds eat "kataba" fish.
Bird migration is a seasonal journey of birds
in response to changes in weather, habitat and food availability.
Philippine authorities, however, are monitoring
the entry of migratory birds as part of its intensified campaign
against avian flu. - Aie Balagtas See, GMANews.TV
