In accordance with discussions taken on 22
November 2009, at the 9th Thailand Birdwatching Fair in Samutprakarn,
Thailand, the Bird Conservation Society of Thailand, Chinese Wild
Bird Federation, Malaysian Nature Society, Nature Society of Singapore,
Wild Bird Club of the Philippines and the Wild Bird Society of
Taipei, hereinafter called the Founding Organizers, hereby agree
in principle to establish, support and promote an annual Asian
Bird Fair.
The Asian Bird Fair will encourage friendship,
collaboration and the exchange of experience and best practices
among the bird clubs of Asia; foster bird-watching as an eco-tourism
activity; highlight bird festivals, bird fairs and bird races
in the region; and promote the host cities/countries—their
natural beauty, eco-adventure activities, wild bird conservation
and cultural heritage.
The Asian Bird Fair will be held annually in
a different city. It will be hosted by a bird club/society and
will take place in conjunction with the club’s/society’s
bird festival/fair. Where possible, the host club will identify
and champion a local/regional cause to be determined and supported
by the participating organizations.
To be chosen, the host club must meet the following
minimum conditions:
- It must provide local transport from the airport to the
festival venue and back.
- It must provide board and lodging for a minimum of two
persons per club invited.
- It must provide a booth for each participating bird club.
- It must organize an optional post-festival birding trip.
Furthermore, the host should, to the extent possible:
? Work with the local government in the organization
and staging of the event.
? Publicize the event.
The host should expect and encourage all founding
organizers to participate in the festival. To the extent possible,
it is also urged to invite other Asian bird clubs to take part.
